Built in 1910, the Sonoma Rose Villa is an historic and expansive home featuring an antique pump house cabana, both newly renovated to provide luxury accommodations for up to 12 guests. There are a total of 6 bedrooms with queen sized beds, two full modern kitchens, three full baths, 2 with Jacuzzis and 1 with a shower plus clawfoot tub, cheery sun room with rockers, conference room, library with fireplace, large solar heated swimming pool; hot tub seats 7; courtyard; and 1.2 acres of fountains, gardens and arbors. Enjoy outdoor areas to play horsehoes, croquet, Bar-B-Q, or just relax on private decks and porches; and more.
Our colorful past: In this respectable retreat, gamblers won and lost their fortunes while ladies of pleasure worked their trade. During the 1930s, the Sonoma Rose was a popular bordello frequented by many colorful local characters and the notorious Chicago gangster Baby Face Nelson. There were “working girls,” and also a disguised gambling den known as a cardroom.
The owner’s name was Solidad Martinez Smith, but she went by the name of Spanish Kitty. She was said to be a kind and cheerful woman who particularly enjoyed pound cake.
